Yes! It drives me nuts that the minute Labor Day rolls around, summer is consdiered over and pumpkins and apples (not to mention Halloween candy) dominate the stores. It's still tomato season, dang it! And this salad looks so refreshing.

Kirk - Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Homesick Texan - It is! Chilly and slippery and it just slides down and cools your belly. I guess I'm supposed to sick of tomatoes and peaches by now...but I'm not. I'll know they'll be leaving us soon. I'm so happy that I get to cook for my first two clients with some summer bounty.

Over at Gluten Free Girl (www.glutenfreegirl.blogspot.com), Shauna calls this time of year "Summerautumn" - in North Carolina, perhaps we'll get there by the end of the month. Though I spotted a wagon full of those pale, butterscotch-colored baking pumpkins in front of a farmhouse about a week ago. So change is in the air, even if it is still 94 degrees here. And...one of the parts best of eating and living with seasons is that we get to move on to the next thing. I won't say no to sweet potatoes and sage once fall finally gets here.

I haven't eaten nearly enough peaches this summer. What the hell happened? I think I shut down when it was so hot. I don't remember much other than band practice, going to the beach then the mountains. Now our garden is dead and I feel guilty. I need to repent before it is too late because I have fallen down on late summer.

It's understandable given this heat, and everything outside brown, crispy and crackly. People, y'all please do a rain dance for North Carolina farmers!
