Oh Crap! These look goooood. They start out like my Swedish meatballs with the bread and milk. Apples? I'll give it a whirl.

This is an interesting technique for the burgers - by adding soaked bread, it is reminiscent of an Italian meatball recipe, but the apple/onion mixture gives it a sweet tang that is surely enjoyable...

But a thought - what about keeping the caramelized onions and apples out of the burger, and instead deglazing/reducing some balsamic vinegar in there, and then using that as a topping for the burger? Add some arugula and toasted almonds, and this could be a killer burger that way as well!

Matt, that makes my stomach growl and grr! Try it out and let us know...though I think I'd - selfishly - want the onions and apples on top and in the burger.

As you know, these burgers taste better if you soak the bread in half and half or heavy cream instead of mere milk.

That was an accident. I reached for the wrong container. You weren't supposed to tell anyone about that.

Seriously, I've made with milk and they are very good. Maybe a smidge better with whole milk. But it's just three tablespoons.

Even though you have the pingback listed here, I thought I would come and personally tell you that I tried my variation on these burgers. I posted the results on my blog, and hope you all come by and take a look!
